What's a skincare coach?

I reckon it’s fair to say we’ve all felt overwhelmed by skincare marketing.

There are thousands of products on the Aussie market, all strategically promoted as "the solution" to our skin concerns.

They’re cleverly formulated, packaged and marketed to make us think "That's the one I need!". But if you don’t know (really know) what your skin needs, you can’t really know what products will (or won’t) help you get comfy, healthy skin.

That’s where a skincare coach comes in.

You can think of a skincare coach as a personal trainer for your skin, but less sweaty and yelly.

Skincare coaches (like me!) work with real people (like you!) to make skincare less confusing and easier to use. We learn about your skin, suggest products based on what you and your skin need, and help you stick to a routine that feels good, fits your life and gets results.

Skincare coaches don’t diagnose skin conditions (that’s a derm’s domain) or offer treatments like lasers or injections (that’s medical aesthetics).

We’ll connect you with the right products for your skin, help you establish a consistent skincare routine and give you the skinfo you need to make smarter, safer skincare choices.

What does a skincare coach do?

I’m so glad you asked! Working with me usually involves:

1. Getting to know you (the consultation)

Skincare isn’t one-size fits all.

Before a skincare coach can make any recommendations about what's next for your skin, we look at:

  • your skin history and current routine
  • your skin goals
  • your lifestyle
  • the side-effects of any medications you're taking
  • your budget and energy levels, and
  • any limitations or challenges that might make it hard for you to stick to your program.

This helps us understand where your skin’s been and where you want it to go.

2. Getting to know your skin (the skin analysis)

Skincare coaches don’t diagnose medical conditions, but we do assess your cosmetic skin type (dry, oily, combo, etc.) and analyse concerns like congestion, dehydration, hyperpigmentation and sensitivity.

This helps us get a clear picture of how your skin behaves (or misbehaves) and what it actually needs.

3. Recommending products to meet your unique skin and circumstances

I recommend products based on what your skin needs, as well as your skin goals and how you like your products to feel. I also make sure the recommendations work with your budget and your lifestyle (specifically, how much time you can spend on skincare every day).

Every product I recommend has been verified as genuinely skin-friendly. How do I verify our products? I’m so glad you asked! For every product I recommend I:

  • scrutinise the developer's claims
  • deep dive into the ingredient list to spot the heroes and the potential irritants
  • read consumer reviews to understand how the product acts on real skin in real life
  •  buy and test a full container of the product myself to see how it feels and performs.

If the product is designed to target a specific skincare concern that I don't have (e.g. post-inflammation hyperpigmentation), an It's Tenille supporter with that concern tests the product for up to six months.

Thank you to our very special friends, family and supporters who kindly volunteer their skin to support my small biz and our gorgeous clients!

4. Planning your personalised skincare program

Skincare routines don’t need to be complicated to work. They need to be achievable (which looks different for everyone) and consistent. I’ll show you:

  • what steps to take (and in what order)
  • how to apply your products properly, and
  • how to be gentle with your gorgeous skin.

I’ll give you an easy-to-follow cheat sheet that explains how and when to use your products. My clients usually keep this in the bathroom with their products. It’s super handy!

5. Posting your personalised skincare pack directly to you (and keeping you in stock)

Once I’ve created your program, I’ll post your personalised skincare pack, which includes:

  • your new personalised skincare routine (step-by-step and easy to follow)
  • your recommended products, hand-picked for your skin
  • targeted skincare advice tailored to your goals, and
  • a little treat because you deserve to feel spoilt and spesh.

It’s skincare made simple, delivered straight to your door.

Honestly, vibes.

6. Ongoing support to help you achieve your skin goals

Skincare coaching isn’t one and done.

Once I’ve created your personalised skincare program, I’ll help you stay on track, remind you of the important stuff to keep your skin safe, tweak your program as your skin changes and answer any questions along the way.

I’ll be your skincare big sis. Yay!

I’ll get in touch a few weeks before your products run out (usually about 3 months) to book a program review or, if you're super happy with your program and results, we'll just restock your products.

What makes me qualified to be a skincare coach?

Skincare coaching isn’t just a hobby I turned into a business. To become a certified skincare coach, I studied:

  • The skincare consultation process: Understanding your lifestyle, medications, and limitations, and defining your skin goals.
  • Skin analysis: Identifying your skin type and concerns (without overstepping into diagnosis).
  • Skin anatomy and the skin barrier: Understanding skin function to help you achieve great skin health.
  • Ingredients and formulations: Knowing what works, what doesn’t and what your skin will love.
  • Product selection: Recommending skincare products based on research, results and your skin’s unique needs.
  • Routine design: Guiding you through step-by-step skincare designed to help you achieve your skin goals in a way that’s safe, smart and achievable.

Skincare coaches also study the work health and safety bits, because your safety is a priority.

Is skincare coaching right for you?

If you’re:

  • confused about what your skin needs
  • tired of wasting money on products that don't work for your skin
  • too busy to research routines that might work
  • curious what it’s like to have a sister who’s obsessed with you and your skin

… or you just want a simple, personalised program that takes the guesswork out of skincare, you’re in the right place.
